CONNECT TO AOL USEING MOZILLA THUNDERBIRD AND UBUNTU
Firstly you will need to install Mozilla Thunderbird if you have not already done so.
To install open a terminal and type the following:
- sudo apt-get update
-
sudo apt-get install mozilla-thunderbird
To open Mozilla Thunderbird go to ---> Applications ---> Internet ---> Thunderbird Mail Client
If this is the first time you have opened the mail client you will get the following 'Import' screen

As shown in the above example click on 'don't import anything' then click on 'Next'
As above example select 'Email Account' then click on 'Next'

Type your name and email address as in my example above and click on 'Next'

Server Information as above example
Select the type of incoming server you are using as 'IMAP'
Incoming Server: imap.aol.com
Outgoing Server: smpt.aol.com
Then click on 'Next'

As my example above enter both the Incoming and Outgoing user name that you use on aol, and click on 'Next'

Here you need to select and add an account name for Thunderbird (nothing to do with aol) in the example above I have used home. Then click on 'Next'

Now just click on 'Finish' all being well your are almost ready to receive and send mail, your password will be the same as the one you normally use to log into aol.
You need to make one last change as instructions below:
ADDING OR CHANGING
INFORMATION ONCE INITIAL SET UP HAS BEEN DONE
On the lefthand side of your screen click on your account name then you will get options on the right where your messages would normally be. Click on 'View Setting For This Account' and if all has gone well on the initial set up you should have similar to my examples below.
Click on 'Home' [or the name you have given your account] and your screen should look similar the example below:

Click on 'Server Settings' and again your screen should look similar to the screen below:

Click on 'Outgoing Server (SMTP)' and where the default 'Port' is 25 change it manually to 587, as per my example below, then click on 'OK'

If you click on the 'Inbox' all of your unread mail will be retrieved.
